About Us

We believe that Tairangi School is the ‘Best School In The World’.

We are nestled in the heart of Waitangirua, about 20 minutes from Wellington City and have a wonderful outlook over Porirua East and the distant hills.

Tairangi is a Decile 1 multicultural school that fosters strong links with our community.  We have 11 classrooms ranging from Year 0 through to Year 8, with classes being divided into three syndicates:

  • Nga putiputi iti - Junior School (Yrs 0-3)

  • Maramatanga - Middle School (Yrs 4-6)

  • Tatou Fanau - Senior School (Yrs 7-8)

We offer a wide curriculum to our students and pride ourselves in producing ‘quality’ work.  Our classrooms are rich environments where students are challenged and able to express themselves in a variety of ways.  All classrooms place great emphasis on reading, writing and mathematics.  We teach integrated units of work to encompass all curriculum areas with meaningful experiences.

Read our Core Beliefs.

All classrooms are spacious and fully resourced.  We aim to keep class sizes as low as possible to maximize student achievement and success.

The school also boasts:

  • An excellent and busy library that is serviced by the latest technology

  • A computer and technology (ICT) suite which is second to none with ICT teaching taking place for all year levels.

  •  Programmes in te reo Maori

  • An ESOL programme in which a trained teacher gives extra support to students who have English as their second language

  • A reading recovery programme run by trained reading recovery teachers

  • Attractive grounds which are well cared for by our full time grounds-man. These have recently been enhanced by a new adventure playground.  We have a large grassed field and plenty of hard court surfaces for children to play.  A focal point of the playground is a colourful mural designed and painted by our 2004 Year 8’s.  It is our school motto, “Ake Runga”, which means – “Our best always”

  • A school hall with kitchen facilities and large wall boards that display our ‘quality’ art work.  We hold our school productions and showcases in the hall

  • We are proud of the sporting successes of our teams and we offer Saturday netball, mid week mini ball and uni-hoc and participate in all inter-school events.  All classes participate in daily fitness as well as regular sport and PE sessions.

We value and respect all cultures. All syndicates have weekly kapa haka/waitata sessions.  Our school meets for an assembly/hui each week on a Friday afternoon where we share in the successes of our students.  These assemblies are hosted by our Year 8 students, who assist with playing guitars, leading singing and role modeling to younger students.

We have a proud history of producing positive students that go on to achieve success at secondary school.

We believe that students from Tairangi School are the best!

If this is the type of school for you, then come and join us – we look forward to meeting you.
