The Board of Trustees acknowledges that there are many financial demands on families these days and therefore no school fees are charged by Tairangi School.
Each term we welcome new students and their parents into the Tairangi School family. This is a wonderful occasion where new students can feel special and parents and caregivers can get to know us over a cup of tea.
Library and Reading Books
Children are encouraged to take books home to read to and with their parents. There is a nominal charge for any library books that are lost by a child. We ask that parents ensure our reading and library books are kept safe and in good condition.
Tairangi School is part of the Alan Duff Charitable Foundation Books in Homes Programme. Children are periodically given free books to take home and add to their own libraries.
We have regular interviews and report evenings for parents to be kept informed of their children's progress.
Term 1
Early in term 1 we have an informal "Get Together" afternoon to meet all parents to discuss the class programmes, your child's interests and needs and to answer any questions you may have.
Term 2
Late in term 2 we have parent interviews to dicuss your child's progress and social development. The child is expected to attend the interview as well.
Term 4
There is a written report sent home at the end of the year on progress made since the mid year interview.
If you feel there is a need, you can also request a meeting with your child's teacher at any time.
In the event of an earthquake or other major disaster, children must remain at school until collected by a parent or caregiver.
We require that all children have an emergency contact person who has the parents permission to uplift the child from school in the event of an emergency or accident at school. Please make person you have nominated is aware of their nomination and that contact details are kept up to date.
We believe that school is a place for all to enjoy and be successful. Bullying, fighting and foul language are not tolerated at Tairangi School. We want children and parents alike to have good memories of Tairangi School.
Twice a term we have assimblies to celebrate children's quality work. Different classes put on items and are presented with Ake Runga Awards for outstanding achievement.
Other awards are presented at these assemblies such as sport awards and perfect attendance awards.
Parents and family Friends are invited to attend these events.
Our Year 7 & 8 students attend Titahi Bay Intermediate for technicraft instruction - music, cooking, sewing, computers etc.
There is a cost for bus transport which is currently $2.00 per session.
At Tairangi School we have Saturday netball teams and mid week mini-ball, as well as a interschool rugby team. Soccer, cricket and other codes are played in regular interschool tournaments.
The school also provides a range of sporting activities within our normal school programme.
Tairangi has a school choir which regularly participates in musical festivals and at school assemblies.
Please name your child's clothing and backpack. All lost property is held in the caretakers shed and you are welcome to come look for any missing items. All items not claimed at the end of the term will be disposed of.
