Experience Based Curriculum
All classes have been resourced to provide shared, rich experiences every week of the year.
Experience based activities begin and support the learning throughout the week.
The richest experiences activate the most senses (Touch, Taste, See, Hear, Smell) in the most children and can be repeated.
Experiences should be selected to position the learner to draw upon their personal and cultural knowledge and skills. To do this you must know your learners.
Prior knowledge of all children is unpacked to make connections to the shared rich experience.
Over the following lessons we should gradually move from the shared rich experience, towards relating the memory of the experience to the concepts we are trying to develop and then being able to discuss the concepts without relating to the experience. Finally we want to be able to apply the concepts learnt to new experiences and new concepts.
The continuation of learning themes should mean there are connections between Shared Rich Experiences.
In every rich experience, teachers must also explicitly include a school value and or connect to the school vision statement.
We should see written evidence of the values and/or vision embedded in your teaching practice in either the modelling book or in student based evaluations.
